Recently I had the pleasure of receiving a review pack from Shock Coffee and what they sent me was awesome. First off I would like to say that if you like coffee and you like to game, then Shock Coffee is going to give you the best of both worlds. I really like their slogan as well ‘Sleep is Overrated’ and for a gamer that slogan is so true. Shock Coffee has a unique taste and blend of it’s own and can be great in the morning, afternoon or even as an after dinner drink.

So when the box came in, my friends over at Shock had sent me the following to try out.

•  8 8oz Cans of Shock Energy Drink (Cold Coffee)
• A Box of Shock-a-Lots
• Four Bags of Shock Coffee

I am glad I was able to try these products from Shock Coffee because what I found is great for any gamer/coffee drinker. I have tried a lot of coffee and a lot of cold coffee drinks and there are a lot out there that I enjoy. Shock Coffee is different though. Their coffee has a kick of extra caffiene. The added caffeine in the drinks gives a burst of much needed energy when it is needed (with 5 kids, two dogs, a wife, and writing- I need that extra kick!).

This is a gamers/coffee drinkers dream come true because for someone who reviews video games for their website having energy and being awake to catch each detail is a must. So the Shock-a-Lots came in handy since each small bag is equal to one cup of coffee I could chew on them while I was getting ready to review some new content for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare spec ops ‘Chaos Mode’. With intense combat comes an intense need for energy and with each Shock-a-Lot I had that energy to play into the wee hours of the night. The flavor of the chocolate covered coffee bean is a great taste to savor while getting to the bean inside. The hard candy shell offers a great crunch and tasty coating that if you just chew it up puts all the flavors together in a single bite sized treat.

The coffee itself has a great aroma to it and while perking it sends a scent through the house that catches your attention and gets you ready for that first cup. While drinking Shock Coffee in the morning I don’t get that tired feeling from being up at 4:30-5:00AM and have energy throughout the day. I was awake enough to write reviews, test out games and had the energy to even do some other work as well. I must say that Shock Coffee is great and it’s one of those drinks that offer everything it says and more. Where other energy drinks fall short, Shock delivers.

The Shock Energy drinks are all great tasting. I had the pleasure of trying four Triple Latte and Four Triple Mocha. Let me tell you they not only taste good warm, (Had to open one as soon as they arrived.) but they are amazingly tasty straight from the fridge and frosty. The Latte offers a great blend that comes together on your taste buds perfectly and is just right for the middle of the dayslump. The Mocha doesn’t have that harsh after taste that some mocha drinks have. Shock Coffee is truly one of those drinks for the gamers out there and if you’re not a coffee drinker than you will still enjoy the Shock-a-Lots candy for the energy you get from them. Gamers need energy and that is a fact especially for those who like to play into the late hours of the night on such games as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3 or Ghost Recon Future Soldier and I suggest getting some Shock in your life, because Sleep is Overrated.

Combining Caffeine with Sugar May Improve Concentration

Focusing on work you really want to do is probably the best way to get more done. But for a small side benefit, try adding something sweet to your caffeine breaks. A new study shows glucose and caffeine could work better together.

Not that it's an endorsement for adding 300-plus calories to a simple cup of coffee, but a bit of sugar consumed at the same time as a caffeinated beverage seemed to help out 40 study subjects in some standard memory and focus tests:

Specifically, the team found that individuals who consumed caffeine and glucose in combination showed reduced brain activation associated with the task in the bilateral parietal cortex and the left prefrontal cortex — two regions that actively participate in attention and working memory processes. The reduced activity and the fact that no drop in behavioural performance was observed during the task suggests that the brain is more efficient under the combined effect of the two substances, since it needs fewer resources to produce the same level of performance than required by those subjects who were administered the placebo or who took only caffeine or glucose.

Shock on Nightline!

A must have for the office!

Now someone has finally gotten the right idea for the modern office environment.

The very, very thoughtful folks over at Konic Minolta have developed what we consider to be the pinnicle of office technology. Their new Bizhub prototype printer has the standard function that we have all come to know; it copies, it scans, it prints, it faxs... we have heard it all before.

But this new prototype has a DVD drive and LCD monitor for watching movies, and get ready for the good part, a built in espresso machine!

Does it get any better than that? You don't even need to step away from the printer for a pick me up cup of coffee while you wait for all those copies to finish up.

We wonder if you could get more pages per minute if you used some Shock Coffee in that thing... Something to consider.

More good news about coffee!

This story posted in USA Today talk about a new study showing some of the positive effects of coffee on a person's health. Here is a piece of the article:

The human research seems to suggest that caffeine might shield the brain from
subtle problems with forgetfulness — a possible early sign of Alzheimer's.

• A study of more than 600 men published in the August European Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests that coffee drinkers may be protected from mild memory and thinking problems that come with old age.
• A 2002 study in the European Journal of Neurology found that people who consumed more caffeine in midlife appeared to be protected from developing Alzheimer's later on.

Studies on caffeine and Alzheimer's are just starting to roll in, but the literature on
Parkinson's is well established:

• A study of more than 8,000 men in the Journal of the American Medical Association by G. Webster Ross and colleagues found that those who drank the most coffee (more than three cups a day) were the least likely to get Parkinson's.
• Another large study, published in 2003 in the Journal of Neurological Sciences, found that tea and coffee drinkers were protected from Parkinson's.

See? We not only keep you going and get you up in the morning, we keep you healthy too!

Boss, you look tired.

As reported in the Scottish newspaper, The Daily Record, ONE in five bosses never take a coffee break.

We here at Shock Coffee are outright concerned. It shouldn't ever come to that. Sure, you could say we are overreacting given that 80% of bosses do take a coffee break, but we say 20% is worth our concern.

Now, bosses of Scotland, and indeed the entire working work, please take your coffee break!

Its good for your health, it relieves stress, its good for employee moral, its just good.

Caffeine? You can't escape!

Here we go! This story on CNN again demonstrates you just can't get away from caffeine.

Might we suggest if you are looking to avoid caffeine, that you skip the decaf and go with a nice cup of hot water.

Otherwise, you might just forget the whole notion and skip on over to the Shock Coffee site and pick yourself up a starter kit and get on with your day. ;)
